Few things to know about ‘Fanush’

The name of the event ‘Fanushi’ came from ‘Fanush’ (ফানুস), which is the Bengali name of sky lantern, also known as Chinese lantern. It’s a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended. The fire increases the temperature of the gas inside the balloon and thus the pressure of the gas also gets increased, which allows the balloon to stay inflated and fly in the air.

This is the reason, when we hear the name Diwali, the first impression that flashes through our minds is of multicolored and impressive fireworks, sprinkling various sorts of bright colored lights in the night sky. We can’t even imagine a wonderful Diwali without them, or can we?

And the answer is ‘Yes’; this year the City of Joy, Kolkata witnessed a different kind of Diwali celebration like never before. Fanushi 4.0 is the festival of sky lanterns that aims to decorate the city sky with lights and hope in an ‘Eco-friendly’ way.
